Dryer Vent Cleaning Benefits

The National Fire Protection Association has estimated that between 15,000 to 18,000 fires were started due to clogged dryer vents. Static electricity can spark a small flame which can ignite the debris that is built up in the dryer vent.  It is very important to clean the lint trap after every load of dried clothes. Dryers that are not only overworked, but their vents clogged with debris, can possibly blow a circuit or even worse, start a fire.

Not only will dryer vent cleanings help with the lifespan of your dryer, but it helps you avoid an unwanted repair or purchase. Over time, if the dryer vent is full of build up, this can affect or even ruin all the electrical components that run power through the unit. It’s important to keep this in mind because the more the build up in your dryer is neglected, chances are that you will need a replacement sooner than you think.

Is your dryer taking longer for your clothes to actually dry? That is a sign that your dryer vent is in need of a good cleaning. No one likes finding damp clothes after the clothes have already been in the dryer for a while. A clogged dryer vent is going to lead to longer drying times for your clothes and can lead to your system being overworked.  Also, The longer a damp load of laundry sits in your dryer, the more likely you can get unwanted mold build up in your dryer. How is a Dryer Vent Cleaned out?

The steps our technician takes to clean out your dryer vent are:

  1. Unplug the unit and remove the dryer duct from the wall. Make sure the unit is away from the exhaust duct and then find the dryer vent cap and remove.
  2. Snake brush is pushed and turned into the duct to clear out debris and blockages.
  3. The snake brush will go along the corners and turns in the duct to thoroughly brush out the buildup where it occurs most
  4. We use a vacuum to collect all remaining debris from each end of the duct.
  5. We attach the vent cap back on and the dryer back to the exhaust duct. We then plug in the unit and you are good to go!

Trust The Professionals When It Comes to Dryer Vent Cleaning.

Dryer vent cleaning and maintenance may seem like a task you can complete on your own but there are a few things you may want to consider. One thing to take into consideration is that your dryer duct may be longer than you realize and you might not have all the equipment needed in order to make sure all of the debris is dislodged from your system.

Some people will even install their own dryer duct and vent — but a common mistake that is made is the material that they use. It’s recommended that plastic tubes like PVC or soft foil tubes are NOT used while reconstructing your dryer vent. These types of materials can cause fires, and most of the time are not up to code with building regulations.

Due to these factors (and plenty others!) it’s highly recommended that our professional HVAC technicians perform your dryer vent cleaning. Our technicians make sure that the cleaning is done properly and that your vent is up to code.
